Manpower Utilization and Task Delegation:

Present Patterns and Future Potential of Physicians' Practices

The manpower utilization patterns in physician practices are examined with regard to present employment and task delegation patterns, willingness to delegate tasks to physician extenders, and correlates of both. The study concludes that little task delegation has occurred in the clinical areas with the exception of the provision of information and counseling. However, there does appear to be an acceptance of significantly more task delegation than has occurred up to the present. Policy implications and recommendations are presented.
