Evaluation of a Humanities Seminar for Health Care Students

Carolyn K. Rozier

School of Physical Therapy, Texas Woman's University

The need for problem solving and a synthesis of knowledge are constant concerns in the health care education field. In an effort to provide for the synthesis of humanities into professional health care training, a study was conducted at Texas Woman's University in the spring of 1978. The students involved responded to ques tionnaires at the midpoint of the program and again at the end. Answers from the questionnaires revealed that, in general, the students felt that the one-hour semmar each week required more of their time than the course warranted. Their opinions regarding the course changedfrom positive to less positive toward the end of the semester. It was concluded that a newformat must be designed for the humanities course for it to become effective.
