The Patient Encounter Method

A Systematic Approach to the Evaluation of Clinical Education

The focus in this paper is upon the method ology used in evaluationg the clinical learning experiences of medical students in rural and university settings. The data collection instrument designed for this study is described as are the uses of the resulting data for purposes of formative and summative evaluation. The method ological literature dealing specifically with time and effort allocation studies is reviewed, and a three-dimensional scheme for categorizing these different method ological variations is described
